Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Inflammatory bowel disease is a group of disorders causing
inflammation or ulceration of the digestive tract. Accutane
side effects have continued to widen and may include such disorders
as inflammatory bowel disease. Although no study has definitively
proven that there is a link between Accutane use and inflammatory
bowel disease, it has been recognized that Accutane patients seem
to develop inflammatory bowel disease.
Due to the sometimes delayed symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease
that can occur, the link between Accutane use and inflammatory bowel
disease may not be made. Hoffmann-La Roche has recognized the possible
connection made between Accutane and inflammatory bowel disease
as a temporal association. Accutane lawsuits claiming inflammatory
bowel disease has been suffered are beginning to create a stir,
in addition to the other Accutane lawsuits.
There is no actual known cause of inflammatory bowel disease but
it can greatly affect an individual. Depending on what type of inflammatory
bowel disease is experienced it may be impossible to cure and that
person will have inflammatory bowel disease forever. In many instances
inflammatory bowel disease will continue to return in previously
unaffected areas, making life very difficult for that person.
Some inflammatory bowel disease patients will have only mild symptoms,
however some patients may find that they have an increasingly hard
time continuing to stay involved in their normal activities. The
inability to stay involved in once enjoyable activities because
of the inflammatory bowel disease may lead to further feelings of
isolation and frustration. The fact that Accutane may be a trigger
for inflammatory bowel disease requires immediate acknowledgement.
An already misunderstood condition, inflammatory bowel disease
in relations to Accutane is not reported into the FDA’s Adverse
Reactions because most physicians and patients will fail to make
the connection. There has not been an official announcement that
has informed both physicians and patients that a possible link between
Accutane and inflammatory bowel disease has been reported. Accutane
patients should be aware of any symptoms indicating inflammatory
bowel disease so that immediate treatment can be implemented before
further damage has been experienced.
